Two MIDI Controllers (split with the laptop in the middle... where it's at)
posted by: 01glitch posted: 11.24.07
I picked up another MIDI controller in the hope of working both into my live setup. My new controller has actually been on the market for a few years... it's a Behringer BCR2000. I went for the knob version since I already have a very nice sliders on the Encore Electronics SlideMate (now discontinued). The other advantage in the BCR2000 is also a USB to MIDI converter (making my Midisport 2x2 obsolete).

PC vs. Mac

The PC vs. Mac use to be a huge topic. I was a Mac user way back (making music with OS 7,8,9) and had two Apple computers before that. Anyway, since I was using Logic 4.8 Gold on a Mac (G4 400Mhz) and didn't feel the need to buy a new computer and Logic again just to go to OS X. That's when I really started to make music using Windows XP... in addition to running Logic as my DAW on the Mac.

Well, fast forward to today. It seems everyone has a MacBook Pro running Abelton Live and/or Logic. In fact, this set-up has become two Technics 1200s and the mixer of our day.

So, I find myself in the minority of my peers again. This is nothing new. I really wanted a Vision - Mark Gonzales skate board when I was 13 years old but my Mom bought me the Vision Animal Skins deck instead (no it wasn't even the cool leopard one - it was black and red zebra). While I'm on the subject I also had a Commodore VIC-20 but never got the much cooler Commodore 64.

The moral of the story is just to use what you have and maximize it's capability. Really, you can make some pretty amazing music for free these days without buying "the best" or "most popular" set-up.

(One more thing that I had once: Korg RK-100)
At least I got my money back on that one.

So, I've turned in two podcasts for glitchpodcast at iTunes. Open iTunes on your computer then follow this link below:

http://www.itunes.com/podcast?id=262174635

Anyway, I guess I've outdone myself with two very different sets in a month so I've been asked to continue to turn in one mix a month as a resident.

Glitchpodcast is looking for other guest djs and manybe another resident or two. Send your info to glitchpodcast@gmail.com

I was selected to be the guest artist on "glitchpodcast" it will be up on iTunes shortly but for now you can hear the mix at: http://geocities.com/glitchpodcast/

It is really glitchy... maybe too much buffer underrun effect?... let me know what you think.

You want to glitch too?

Not that this is a huge secret but there a bunch of great VST plug-ins these days. I've been keeping this one to myself long enough.
