Sometimes I feel a bit like the Pied Piper. However, I prefer the Priest metaphor when referring to my interpretation of what a DJ truly is. Or rather, who I am as the DJ.
From the beginning, as early as I can remember, I have been a healer of some kind. Relieving people of their worries, burdens, or sins is something that will forever create the same effect on me as it does on the crowd. It is the stranger that I seek to enlighten; the crowd of people completely alien to one another at first rises above the every day glaze that smothers their inner child. Like a Priest or Shaman or Witchdoctor even; I attempt to bring the whole place to a highly plane of being. A groupthink emerges and relation on every level occurs, where once two strangers would not even look one another in the eye, they now dance together.
To create and maintain a symbiosis between the dancer and the DJ is my greatest task when playing a show. Taking them from what they know to what they dont without them realizing it and focusing the rooms energy by carrying the crowd along a beat driven rollercoaster ride. I basically get people off on the dance floor!
